London, 1967- the era of Carnaby street, Twiggy, and
the Beatles... Adorned in purple fishnet stockings and
the latest Biba outfit, I was an American teenager
thrilled to be momentarily part of the hippest street
scene anywhere.
I first caught sight of a bunch of these tissue paper
roses in a trendy interior design boutique off Carnaby
Street. The bouquet was composed of chestnut brown,
chili pepper red, hot orange, yellow, cyclamen and
black flowers; the unexpected colour scheme and their
velvety looking texture made them irresistible to me.
Months later, I finally took one apart and figured out
how they were made; now with these kits, I am passing
the secret on to you.
I use these flowers frequently in my art healthcare
work, making them on the spot to adorn patient’s
rooms or nurses stations. And they have endless
applications as gifts and decorations.
